When his wife died, Ronnie felt lost and hopeless. Severe depression eventually led him to homelessness. At the time, Ronnie lived in Danville where housing resources are limited. Local community services arranged transportation so Ronnie could travel to Roanoke where more comprehensive services are available. Once in Roanoke, he found Commonwealth Catholic Charities’ supportive housing team.
"Supportive housing is a vital resource for those facing both homelessness and mental health challenges," shares Jessica Joseph, CCC case manager. "We offer personalized support to help each person secure housing, build stability, and feel empowered as they work towards their goals."
In December, CCC helped 84 individuals access resources and move into stable homes through the Permanent Supportive Housing program in Central and Southwest Virginia.
While helping Ronnie to process the loss of his wife, CCC continued the search for a long-term home. In November, after a year of being homeless, Ronnie moved into his new apartment. He was finally home.
Ronnie settled in quickly, and is deeply grateful for his new life in Roanoke
CCC provides Permanent Supportive Housing and other Supportive Housing programs in Richmond, Roanoke, Hopewell, and Norton.
