A Call for Reassurance: Senior Services At CCC

Carol has always loved living alone. After retiring from a full-time career, she continued to find ways to stay engaged in her community through hobbies and volunteering. But things are changing.

At 78 years old, Carol has lived in her home for 48 years. In that time, neighbors have moved and friends have passed away. Her energy levels are decreasing and hobbies have become harder to keep up with.

“I started feeling disconnected and isolated,” said Carol. “Getting older feels like the universe has put a stop sign in front of me."

With no family in the area or regular visitors, Carol began to wonder who would notice if something happened to her. A friend told her about CCC’s call reassurance program.

This free program, designed for seniors and those with disabilities, provides weekly or biweekly calls to individuals who are lonely or isolated. The calls are a much-needed personal connection and listening ear to nearly 70 individuals.

Now, after four years, Carol remains grateful for CCC’s support and has even donated to the program.

“It’s a service I can’t get anywhere else,” said Carol. "The check-ins provide reassurance that someone is there and will notice if I don’t answer one day.”
