Dear Birth Mother,
We cannot imagine all the emotions you are feeling throughout this process. We have been praying for you. We want you to know that we are here for you and your child. It is important for us as parents to have a supportive relationship with you through this process and beyond. We support you having consistent communication with your adoptive child. If you need space and a break in correspondence, we understand that. If you need flexibility and adjustments between those two ends of the spectrum, as time goes on, we respect that and want to honor that.
Most importantly, we want you to take comfort in knowing your child will be well taken care of. They will be raised in a home filled with love. They will live in a diverse community with people of various ages, races, and backgrounds. Their adoptive mother is a Benefit Programs Specialist who supports a diverse cohort of individuals who need assistance. Their adoptive father is a mental health case worker. They help vulnerable individuals acquire resources so that they can live independent productive lives.
Above all else, we want you to know that you and your child are loved and supported- by both of us as the adoptive parents, by our biological families, by our neighborhood and living community in Virginia, and our work communities in the Richmond, VA area. We acknowledge the emotions you are feeling we cannot understand. We recognize we will not be able to answer every question you have in a letter. We just want to give you our word that you and your child will always have love and support from us.
